These 5 TV Series Premiered in 2020 And You Might Catch Them Again in 2021!

2020 is nearing an end and I couldn't have found a better way to wrap this rather eventful year. Today, I've compiled 5 TV series that premiered this year and might be coming back to our screens next year. Let's ride!

1. Blood And Water
For high school themed films, I must say this was bomb! Of course it didn't lack the allure of these "teenagers"(one would really wonder if they really are teenagers) bringing out great stories to life. The South African Netflix series debuted in May 2020 and it was such a success. This made Netflix renew it for Season 2 barely two months after its premiere, that's June 15th.

The series follows a high school girl, Puleng Khumalo(Ama Qamata) who's seventeenth birthday turns out to be  completely eye opening as fate makes her meet Fikile Bhele (Khosi Ngema). Throughout the series, we come to see that Fikile could be Puleng's twin sister who supposedly died 17 years ago.

The series explores diverse appealing themes of romance, betrayal and youthfulness. The sets and scenes are so breathtakingly beautiful, making you want more of that South African uptown life!

Great emerging talent including Wade Daniels (Dillon Windvogel), KB (Thabang Molaba) and Chris Ackerman (Arnold Greeff) bring in a breath of fresh air that would leave any youth craving for more. Nasty C also makes a surprise appearance  as Zhero;a music producer who helps in crafting Puleng's and KB's first studio track.

I personally can't wait for season 2 to drop next year because I'm still nursing the wounds from the cliffhanger in the last episode!

2.Queen Sono
I apologize for delivering such bad news....but I just gotta do it coz "irriz wharririz".Queen Sono, the first ever Netflix Original Series from Africa premiered on Netflix on 28th February this year. It received great acclaim from all over the world for its amazing plot. It was therefore renewed for season 2 only for it to be canceled on the 2nd of this month.(If you might have noticed, I placed the news right at the end to avoid breaking hearts out there - at least for once (: )

Despite the cancelation, Queen Sono was such a coming of age TV series depicting the exact face of the African continent. It stars Queen Sono (Pearl Thusi) who is a top-notch spy working for a South African intelligence unit which tries to 'clean' the continent of criminals. Together with her wingman (for lack of a better word) Frederique (Loyiso Madinga), they traverse Africa in pursuit of well-known criminals.

One thing I find so intriguing about this series was the various shooting locations all over Africa. The series is shot on location in South Africa, Zanzibar, Kenya, Nigeria and the DRC. I can't also miss to mention Sauti Sol's and Sho Madjozi's track ;Disco Matanga being the official soundtrack for the series.

I know most of you(if not all of you) were Queen Sono's fans. How do you feel considering it's cancelation? Let's console each other in the comment section!

3.Gangs of London
Tighten your seat belts because Gangs of London is about to take you for a bumpy ride! This action packed, raunchy and blood filled series premiered on Sky TV on 23rd April this year in the UK.And whether it's been renewed for season 2? The good news is...Yes! Gangs of London is bringing back the thrill in 2021.

The show's storyline is centered in London, which in the series is the seat of Finn Wallace (Colm Meaney), who is the kingpin of high-profile "business men and women" in Europe and Asia. These groups bow down to his command but everything goes assunder when he dies. This therefore forces Sean Wallace (Joe Cole) - you must have known him from Peaky Blinders - to take over the throne.

Things turn rather sour as Sean just can't cope working with his late father's closest friend;Ed Dumani(Lucian Msamati) and his son Alexander Dumani(Paapa Essiedu) to man his father's empire. Enemies take advantage of this disunity to launch vicious attacks which leave the Wallaces' and Dumanis' gasping for air.

If you're a blockbuster movie lover, I'll surely recommend Gangs of London for you  because you won't just get enough of the gusto, audacity and thrill.

I believe season 2 will bring in many surprises as we don't know whether Maria Wallace (Michelle Fairley) is dead or how Sean will deal with Elliot (Sope Dirisu), knowing that he betrayed the Wallaces'...can't wait!

4.Warrior Nun
Hallelujah! The demon hunting Sisters are coming back in 2021.

After debuting on Netflix in July this year, Netflix couldn't hold but renew it for a second season on 19th August this year. So if you want more of that church action then you must be jolly.

Warrior Nun's creators and producers must be great creatives because the series is not your normal cup of tea. Ava (Alva Baptista), stars as a young girl who's fate is totally turned around as she resurrects with a halo cemented on her back. She decides to relive all the fun for getting a new dose of life. However, she's yet to discover that the halo is more than just an object ;it's one of the most protected artefacts by the Catholic Church. This hence leads her to 'join' the Sisters of the Cruciform Sword, who are experts in combating any attacks against the Catholic Church in Spain.

I must say the series has such an amazing cast, ranging from the badass Sister Mary (Toya Turner), the vicious Sister Shannon (Melina Matthews) and the intellectual Sister Beatrice (Kristina Tonteri) to the quiet Father Vincent (Tristán Ulloa). It's more than just a 'church series' as you'll be surprised by the amount of cuss words being thrown around (:

The suspension cultivated in the last seconds of the tenth episode really made me wanting moore! I believe season two would be so gripping to the end.

5.Alex Rider
You might or might not have watched this series this year. Either way, let's get down to it!

Alex Rider is a British TV series based on Anthony Horowitz's Alex Rider book franchise. So if you might have guessed, the episodes are based on chapters in the different novels in the franchise. Season 1 covered three novels and after it's renewal, season 2 is going to cover the fourth novel - Eagle Strike

The Sony-produced series has Alex Rider (Otto Farrant) starring as a high school teenager in England who's been recruited by the MI6 to investigate into the inhumane acts going on at Point Blanc Academy - a school in the Swiss Alps for teenagers from super rich families. Alex Rider teams up with her classmate, Kyra(Marli Siu) to destroy Dr Greif's (Haluk Bilginer) operations in the school. By the end of season 1,Alex Rider has already managed to escape from the academy, therefore setting a new path for himself. (Not a new path yet maybe;coz season 2 is coming in 2021)
