Riverdale: Expeditious Review & Why You Need To Watch Season 5 (The Spoilers, Oh My!)

Talk about superhero teen TV series and Riverdale won't miss a spot in the list. Ranging from Teen Wolf, Vampire Diaries to Legacies, Riverdale seems to fit like a glove in this genre of film.Since 2017,Riverdale has captured a great fan base consisting of not only teenagers but also people in advanced age groups.

Main Riverdale Cast

Riverdale premiered on The CW on 26th January 2017 in the US. It's created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa as it's adapted from Archie Comics written by him earlier on.

The main cast is a lineup of rather young but greatly seasoned actors and actresses in the film industry.Actually,before shooting for the series began, the production team went around the world to hunt for just the most suitable cast and I can say they didn't go wrong.

Betty (Lili Reinhart) stars alongside Jughead (Cole Sprouse), Veronica (Camila Mendes), Archie (KJ Apa) and Cheryl (Medalaine Petsch) as high school teens struggling through the murky waters of Riverdale; a town that's full of mystery, 'pep' and constant murders.

Riverdale's town slogan is 'A town with pep!' but this only seems to clash with the evil that's taken root in the town.

Season 1 opens with what seems to roll the carpet for all that's going to ensue in the subsequent episodes. Cheryl and her brother Jason head out to Sweetwater River only for Jason to allegedly "drown" , leading to his death. Jason's death takes center stage in this season with many suspects being put up to questioning.However,the truth comes out eventually - it's Clifford ;Jason's father who brutally shot him in the forehead.

 At this point, it is already clear that NOBODY - absolutely NOBODY is to be trusted in this town.

Betty, portrayed by Lili Reinhart 

Veronica's and her mother; Hermione's (Marisol Nichols) arrival to the town from New York seems to stir the hornet's nest. Hiram (Mark Consuelos), Veronica's father is a well known criminal and this doesn't go well with her schoolmates at Riverdale High. 

The season ends in a completely tragic scene. A masked gunman shoots Archie's father ; Fred Andrews (Luke Perry) after a raid at Pop's. This gunman has only started to ravage the neighborhood as we come to later know him as the "Black Hood". 

GUNSHOTS are not a rare occurrence in Riverdale and this is neither the first nor the last one to be heard.

The Black Hood lengthens his reign of terror in the second season. He strangles Mrs. Grundy (Sarah Habel) - who was once in  clandestine relationship with Archie,claiming that he's targeting "sinners". He also kills Midge during the opening scene of the school's musical, which leaves the town in blue horror. 

Have you ever played "Gryphons and Gargoyles"? Haha, I bet you haven't 😂

Gryphons and Gargoyles is the ruling theme in season 3.A game that not only makes the players suicidal but also leaves them with wishful thinking that they'll once 'ascend' and 'meet' their 'King'. 

The Farm also takes Alice and a whole lot of Riverdale High students captive and this puts Betty and Jughead to task on putting Edgar (Chad Michaelson) - the president of the Farm - down. 

The Stonewall Prep 'Crew' 

The fourth season starts on a rather sad note as Fred Andrews' funeral is organized in town. (As a matter of fact, Luke Perry, who played Fred Andrews' character actually died in real life - so you must understand where his funeral in the series comes from.) 

The last episode doesn't really leave us on a cliffhanger as a season finale would be expected to. Betty and her friends have started receiving their university admission letters and final prom is just a few moments away. 

What Makes Riverdale Tick

I find the series quite captivating and addictive. It creates its own little world - which is Riverdale town. It also has infectiously gripping visual choices ranging from beautiful sets and easy to follow plot lines. 

The Big 4:"Arch,V,Jug and V" 

If you're not a fan of crime scenes, then this might be a turn off in a way. Personally I think they're not as extreme as the ones in a horror film - so they'll just leave you with an exciting thrill. 

The choice of characters and cast is to die for. From the 'boss b**ch' Cheryl to 'FBI' Betty and Jughead...you'll be left only wanting more from them as they hardly give an ounce of disappointment. 

Season 5 Release Date and Spoilers (Let me spill the tea a bit 😆) 

Well, Season 5 is expected to premiere on The CW on 20th January 2021. It will be available for streaming on The CW App and Netflix the next day afterwards.Here is a trailer teasing on what you might expect.

From what is known so far from the creators and The CW, the season will start with the last prom for Betty and her crew as they head to university. But then, it will jump to document their post-college lives. At this point, Chris Mason will take up the character of Chad Gekko and be Veronica's husband. 

Yes, you heard me right.....VERONICA'S HUSBAND. 

So I'm very sorry to all the "Varchie" fans if at all you're one of them. 

Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan) will also document her real-life pregnancy in the series.

Wow, from all this, all I can say is that it's gonna be an interesting season ever... the expected twists and turns would be lit as hell! (No pun intended though 😂)
